VNL: Jump Trip to Amsterdam

Earlier this year Jump worked with Volleyball World to create a new broadcast graphics package for the 2025-2028 Volleyball Nations League (VNL).

Once the project had been successfully delivered we were very kindly invited out to catch a game and get a tour behind the scenes – including a close-up view of our graphics being played out.

The team packed their bags and headed off super early to catch their flight to Amsterdam.

THE GAME:

Matt: “We were very lucky to be invited to watch a VNL game in lovely Apeldoorn, near Amsterdam, at the national multisport stadium, Omnisport.  Our colleague Danny at VNL was truly a fantastic host, and has just as much energy as you could imagine for someone who needs to be across the entire VNL operation.  He whisked us around the stadium to get a first hand insight into how a large-scale sporting event is covered on the stadium floor, fed around the site to graphics, and OB truck gallery and sent out into the world.”

Charlene: “I really enjoyed watching the match between Belgium and the Netherlands. The games were super fast-paced, and the energy in the arena was intense. One of the most interesting parts was how they kept the crowd hyped the entire time. They played high energy club music between plays, which fit perfectly with the flow of the game. Whenever someone landed a spike or made a block, they played specific tracks and the whole crowd would start chanting in sync. It made the entire place feel alive.

The highlight of our tour for me was seeing inside the TV production vans. So much work goes into filming and broadcasting a match. There were so many rows of screens showing different angles, all monitored in real time.

Overall, it was such a fun day. The mix of intense competition, music, and crowd energy made it feel like way more than just a sports event. I’d definitely go again. It’s surprising that volleyball isn’t more popular in the UK!”

Joao: “Having the chance to experience the atmosphere of a live VNL tournament game with VIP access and a behind-the-scenes look at how our broadcast graphics come together was a brilliant experience. It was amazing to feel the energy of the crowd and soak up the excitement of the sport.”

THE CITY:

Matt: “Admittedly, my first thought upon hearing about the trip to Amsterdam was STROOPWAFELS! But then most of my first waking thoughts relate to food.”

“We did manage to squeeze in some sightseeing and a healthy dose of culture too.  I think we were unwittingly going for a step count record, and taking to Amsterdam on foot, we found ourselves at the Stedelijk, which it turns out is just as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside.  A highlight for me was a retrospective on the Netherlands graphic designer Karel Martens – well worth the admission price alone. What a fun trip.”

Joao:  “I loved wandering through Amsterdam’s calm streets and canals. We grabbed lunch at my favourite bagel spot, followed by a visit to the contemporary art gallery to indulge my love of art and culture before jetting back to UK soil. The whole trip left me inspired to return and create more fantastic graphics, while also bonding with the team.

It was the perfect way to round off the whole project.”

We would love to say thank you again to our client friends at Volleyball World for being such fantastic hosts and tour guides.
