Client: Dorothy St Pictures
Jump was commissioned by Dorothy St Pictures to create the graphics for their new documentary – Game of Throws: Inside Darts. The three part series was broadcast on Sky Documentaries.
This celebratory series goes behind-the-scenes and reveals the exciting build up to the World Championships. We follow the journey of young hopefuls to top-seeded players – such as Michael van Gerwin, Luke Humphries and the brilliant Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler.
The graphics package included titles, bumpers and all of the in-programme graphics. These multiple animations assist the narrative by detailing match cards, score cards as well as locations and name straps.
Sam Clarke – Senior Designer at Jump:
“We didn’t want the graphics to look like traditional sport graphics.
We created a diagonal dividing line device based on the angles of the treble 20, the highest score on the board obviously. This device animates on and opens up to reveal information within it, such as names and locations.
We also created a Rolodex-style name strap device that would scroll through the different participating players until it reached the intended name.
For the title card, we created a 3D dartboard which sat subtly in the background behind our typography.
As a dart fan I really enjoyed getting a closer look at the players and the finer points of the World Championships. I also learned new rules about the game that I didn’t know. Graphically, it was lovely working with Dorothy St Pictures creating a style that wasn’t the usual but something more unique to darts.”
