Jason Manford presents this exciting, fast-paced BBC quiz show where three couples face a series of 50/50 questions which slide down The Answer Run towards them.
The couples build up their cash pots over three rounds but only one pair can face The Final Run and win the chance to take home their cash prize.
Harry Handyside – Art Director at Jump:
“Our journey with The Answer Run began when we were brought on to help create the show’s sizzle reel. For this, we designed a 3D version of the set and filmed contestants on green screen, seamlessly compositing them into the game’s dynamic world.
When the show was commissioned by the BBC, we were excited to take on the full scope of the project, developing both the brand identity and the on-screen gameplay graphics. Our design approach focused on delivering a clean, app-like experience for the gameplay.
The mechanics needed to be intuitive and engaging, relying on simple swiping gestures for players to interact with. The animations—whether for swipes, correct, or incorrect answers—were crafted to be quick and fun, enhancing the experience without overshadowing the quiz itself. Each correct answer was designed to deliver a satisfying ‘dopamine hit’ for both players and the audience, adding to the excitement of the game.”
Russell Mann – Technical Director at Jump:
“We took the BBC’s gameplay brief and interpreted it into a set of example animations for each of the rounds and for each of the screens in the set. These were all put together in After Effects. This enabled the Answer Run team to visualise the different scenarios in action before committing to anything being programmed. They could try out various ideas and judge what worked best.
Once everything was locked off and agreed upon, we used these gameplay example animations to deliver a full kit of graphic parts for the computer systems team at Marvellous Machines to build their automated version.”
