Sport 24 UEFA EURO 2020

Back at the beginning of 2020, Jump was invited by Sport 24 to pitch to create a graphics package for the UEFA EURO 2020 tournament. We won the tender, but as we all know the global pandemic arrived and ended up delaying the tournament for a year. Thankfully a couple of months ago the project started up again. We’re now all set for kickoff at the end of this week of one of the most popular and exciting football tournaments.

Sport 24 holds exclusive inflight rights to the UEFA EURO 2020, with all 51 matches being broadcast live across Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra.

Jump were asked to create an event promo, teaser packages, countdown bumpers and host city stings, as well as elements for Sport 24’s social media.

Harry Handyside, Art Director at Jump explains our concept:

“Our campaign, called ‘The Language of Football’, celebrates the Euros as an international competition that draws all of Europe together. We are united by our passion for the game and the game transcends all languages. We used common football terminology from each of the competing nations to describe amazing moments of football action from the Euros. The terms will be recognisable for an international audience but also, once paired with great imagery the language will come to life. This angle on the Euros promotes an overtly international feeling, which is very suitable for Sport 24.

We used stock images combined with past Euros football footage. The stock images were cut out and animated in After Effects to create parallax with graphic text elements.

There was a lot of research required to find words for each nation that represented great football moments. The words and phrases could be from national chants or slang but they had to be relatively recognisable for a majority English speaking audience.”

Sport 24 provided the music track for the sequences and we added some match voiceovers to sit over the bigger name players. Music producers, Sitting Duck completed the final mix and added some sound effects to bring the sequence to life even more.

“With its delayed 60th anniversary, we wanted our own campaign to reflect UEFA’s tournament intention for Euro 2020 to be hosted across multiple countries around Europe.

Jump’s unifying theme built around “One Language of Football” was perfectly pitched to reflect Sport 24’s international and multicultural audience in the air. The developed creative allowed every team and country to be represented within their own identity, while avoiding any ‘home-nation’ broadcaster bias.
